Running an IT business
For some time I have had my own information technology business. All people had to do was to give me a call and ask me to go to their place and fix the issue and get paid.
The problem was still the communication side. I could not tell how much time they needed me there as I could not see the facial expressions and interpret the way they were talking to me.
The other problem was to know how much I should charge a person. On that side of things I had to do a fair bit of research without scaring the customer away.
I charged people very low in prices and I found people kept on coming back or calling back for my services. I could not drive at that time and I can’t drive now either. Customers would pick me up from my place and transport me to where their location would be.
I found that my rates were cheap and people did not mind picking me up. Then I researched the market and found out what other companies were charging. I did put up my prices but not by much as it was a risk to lose customers.
Owning my own business could get daunting and busy so I have also worked in other jobs. But I still run my own business on the side as a backup, and for extra income.
