Eating healthy food, getting regular exercise, knowing what to do when you are unwell and keeping yourself clean are all ways to look after yourself.
Can you tell when you are getting sick or when it’s time to visit a doctor and seek medical treatment?
When was the last time you visited the dentist?
Do you know where to find the help you need - this could be as simple as buying over the counter medicine or it might mean going to a doctor, dentist, family planning clinic or some other health service or even calling an ambulance.

Up until now you have taken responsibility for ensuring your son or daughter maintains a healthy lifestyle. Give yourself a pat on the back!
However, the next step is to help them develop independence in this area.
You can do this by:
- helping them to understand the importance of healthy eating and regular exercise.
- ensuring they know about safe sex practices.
- encouraging good personal hygiene.
- ensuring that they know how and when to access medical assistance or mental health support.
